Bus shuttles are set to replace trains this weekend on the Metro Green Line between Hawthorne/Lennox and Mariposa Station. From Friday, Oct. 23 after 9 p.m. through Sunday, Oct. 25, close
of service, all eastbound trains departing Redondo Beach will return west at Mariposa, and the last stop for westbound trains out of Norwalk will be Hawthrone/Lennox. Aviation/LAX Station will be closed. Customers traveling between Mariposa, Aviation/LAX and Hawthorne/Lennox will need to board supplementary Metro Bus shuttles in order to do so.
Green Line weekend service levels will be as follows: on Friday, trains will run every 20 minutes. The last, complete, westbound trips serving all stations on Friday evening will depart Norwalk Station at 7:54 p.m., 8:12 p.m., and 8:30. The last, complete, eastbound trips will depart Redondo Beach Station at 8 p.m., 8:20, and 8:39. (Please note, all times are subject to work-related delays.)
On Saturday and Sunday, trains will arrive every 15 minutes until 8:30 p.m., then every 20 minutes through close of service. A total of 10 buses, scheduled to arrive approximately every 10 minutes, will be in place to shuttle customers between the three affected stations.
While we realize this departure from regularly scheduled Green Line service will be a hassle for some, it’s also pretty exciting for those who are following the progress of The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project (for a map, scroll to the bottom of this article). The project–which will connect the Green and Expo Lines via Aviation/LAX and Expo/Crenshaw Station–has been moving steadily along since its groundbreaking on January 21, 2014. This weekend’s bus shuttles will allow workers to access the tracks at Aviation/LAX Station, where they will be installing a safety barrier to separate Green Line tracks/trains from the future construction crews who will be building out the Crenshaw/LAX light rail from Aviation/LAX Station.
Metro personnel will be on hand, and happy to lend assistance, at Hawthorne/Lennox, Aviation/LAX and Mariposa Station throughout the weekend.
